Murder Suspects Arrested During Routine Roadblock

On Friday 14th June 2024, during a routine stop and search roadblock, Durban North CPF members assisted Durban Metro Police with stopping a suspicious vehicle.

Whilst the vehicle was being checked, the one suspect fled the scene, with some of our CPF members giving chase. The suspect fled into a nearby office park, by which time Durban Metro Police and SAPS members had joined our members in the chase. The suspect, who was found hiding in the office block, was apprehended a short while later by Durban Metro Police and was escorted back to his vehicle.

Durban North CPF, Metro and SAPS members conducted a thorough search of the vehicle and found a human body which had been covered with cardboard and bags containing clothing and blankets. Medics were called to the scene and confirmed the person was deceased.

The driver and the passenger were detained and are currently being held at the Durban North SAPS station for further investigation.

We would like to commend our members, as well as the law enforcement officers for their swift response and decisive actions resulting in the apprehension of the suspects.

The roadblock yielded other successes, notably:

– 16 arrests (14 males, 2 females)

– Highest alcohol reading: 0.71mg/1

– Lowest alcohol reading: 0.28mg/1

– 2 PRDP drivers

CPF Name Amendment

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

18 March 2024

AMENDEMENT OF NAME TO ALIGN WITH THE STATION

We have received a request from the District SAPS to amend the name of the CPF to align with that of the station precinct name that we fall under, that being the Durban North SAPS. This is the standard that is being ensured across all CPFs in the region.

You will therefore notice that all communications, releases, imagery, logo, etc. reflect the updated change.

This change will require some administrative amendments in the background, none of which will affect the day-to-day or overall running, operations or function of the overall CPF, it’s sub-forums or associated units/roles.

Please note that this name change in no way changes the operational areas of the CPF, nor aims to exclude areas based on their name. These areas are the same operational areas that have always made up the Durban North SAPS precinct, and have not changed, with the exception of new developments that arose, albeit in the already existing coverage. There are no plans in place to expand or shrink the boundaries that make up the precinct.

For clarity, the Durban North SAPS Policing Precinct, therefore the DNCPF operational area comprises of three major suburbs of Durban North, Umhlanga and Umdloti, which fall under eThekwini Municipality.

Durban North – Broadway, Athlone, Prospect Hall, Beachwood, Virginia, Glenashley.
Umhlanga – La Lucia, Sunningdale, Somerset Park,
Upper Umhlanga: New Town Centre, Prestondale, Umhlanga Ridge, Westridge, Herrwood Park, Woodlands (Izinga Ridge).
Lower Umhlanga: Umhlanga Rocks, Village/CBD, Newlands.
Umdloti – Peace Cottage, Sibaya, Selection Beach, Newsel Beach/CBD, Umdloti Beach/Bellamont.

MK Viral Message – 17 March 2024

We are aware of a message currently circulating that urges residents to “take precautions” ahead of a MK court case this coming week. The message makes further claims of army deployment off the back of civil unrest.

As is stands, we have no credible or verifiable information to substantiate these claims. Further to this, there has been no presidential order to deploy the army. As with previous fake viral messages, there is no name and/or source attached, no date or any other information to give the message credibility.

Given the nature of the instability of our water and power over the past few months, as an everyday precaution, most residents already have backup water on hand, and some form of alternate power, among other things. By default, households should already have a small stock of medical necessities for day-to-day incidents, and access to their chronic medicine.

As always, we ask that residents remain aware and alert, and if you notice anything out of order such as people tampering with equipment or infrastructure, or even have concerns with Municipal teams working on any infrastructure, please call either SAPS on 10111, Metro Police on 031 361 0000, the DNCPF Control Room on 063 643 7803, or your local security provider.

We ask that you rely on information either from your Ward Councillors, the DNCPF or other official structures, and refrain from sharing unverified voice notes and messages.

If you have first hand information to share, include a date and time when sharing.
